Conquest
The M/V Conquest
is a 49' former U.S. Navy MK IV Utility Boat.
Thanks to Joe Butcher, formerly on the U.S.S. Samuel L. Gompers (AD37)
our boat has been identified as having served aboard the Gompers.
Additional information from George Schneider confirms that she was
built
on Terminal Island in Long Beach by Harbor Boatbuilding Co. in 1965 and
assigned
to the Gompers in 1967. She retired from service in 1989. She was soon
acquired
by the Sea Scouts in Stockton, CA but work was later abandoned and she
sat
idle at the Stockton Sea Base until we found her. She was launched in
August of 2004
and should be complete by the summer of 2006.
