Built for the U.S. Navy on Terminal
Island in Long Beach by Harbor Boatbuilding Co. in 1965 and assigned to
the U.S.S. Samuel L.Gompers (AD 37) in 1967. She retired from service
in 1989. She was soon acquired by the Sea Scouts in Stockton, CA, but work
was later abandoned and she sat idle at the Stockton Sea Base until we found
her in 1997. We trucked her to Southern California and began the work to
convert her into a boat for our program. Today we launched her and moved
her to the a temporary slip on Terminal Island. There is still much to be
done. We hope to have a dedication ceremony at the end of April, 2004. You
